Getting further into the video - Honey literally does the opposite of what it advertises to customers.
By partnering with Honey, stores are allowed control over which coupons the platform offers. This is the key selling point for a store to partner with them. If you're partnered with Honey, you can ensure that the highest deal possible isn't offered.
Which means they're not only lying in their adverts, but they're basically engaging in extortion of retailers - "Pay us a commission, or else we'll cost you as much money as possible."
if you have the Honey browser extension installed, uninstall it immediately. big big story broke on youtube today strongly indicating that Honey has been massively defrauding basically everyone who does any business with them at every level, including influencers, customers, and actual retailers.
the short version of ONE of the alleged crimes is that they've been hijacking referral links and codes. if you have honey installed on your browser at all, and you use any referral code from anyone, there is a high probability honey will swap out the referral link identifier for their own even if they don't provide a coupon at checkout.
they also are just lying to you, and hiding coupons that very much exist. they're completely fraudulent
paypal bought honey in 2019 for 4 billion, so paypal has been strip mining the influencer economy for 5 years now. the amount of money that's been essentially stolen is unfathomable

Regardless of anyone's feelings on AI, automatically "upgrading" people to a plan they didn't ask for when their current plan is still available -WHICH YOU NEGLECTED TO TELL THEM - is some of the scummiest corporate fuckery imaginable.
if you're subscribed to Microsoft word, you probably received an email recently saying they're upping their prices. Like, a lot. ($9.99/month instead of $6.99)
guess what though? you can log into your account, click Cancel Subscription, and get the option to continue your subscription at the same price WITHOUT their bullshit AI.
That's right, the new, higher price is actually a different subscription that includes AI that everyone is being opted into by force! What a cool and fun product that clearly everyone wants.
you can also choose to buy Word 2024 without AI for a single lump sum that will be yours in perpetuity, with no updates, for one computer.
Check your subscription if you need Word for work! Don't get duped into paying for something you might not even want

Advocacy and Art (PSA)
As somebody who was around during the AIDS crisis, I have a lesson to share. It's very short, and very simple, and very brutal.
Consuming art is just consumerism. Making art is the only real advocacy.
(obviously also advocacy is advocacy, I'm speaking in particular about fandom 'advocacy')
I learned this at museums, watching people discuss so many artists' final pieces of art. I learned this at clinics, when we ran campaigns to try and get support from the public. I learned this at the AIDS quilt, listening to people comment on how pretty some squares were.
Most of all I've learned this from the way I am still treated. If consuming art was advocacy that changed people's minds, then we wouldn't have dealt with the neglect and the active ignoring of the HIV/AIDS while it got worse and worse.
But art is only advocacy if you're making it. Consuming art is not advocacy.
Consuming shows, movies, and art made by others is not advocacy. Awareness is a very limited form of advocacy only needed for things people are actually unaware of beforehand.
Thus, for queers, the only advocacy possible through art is making your own. Consumption is not activism.
#queer stuff#we learned that people who watched our struggles were unreliable#and only those who engaged without ego and with humility in the depth of the experience came out of it changed#consuming the art did nothing but raise awareness#and awareness isn't advocacy unless people don't know about something#people been knowing about faggots since caveman days#so awareness is not advocacy for queers#anyway this is your call to make something#fanwork or not

On the one hand, absolutely fuck anyone who puts misleading nutrition information on their packaging. That information is needed for people's safety. It can quite literally be a matter of life and death for people to know that the thing they're buying is actually what it says on the package.
On the other, there's this culture of absolute snobbery around "luxury" foods. Very specific sources have to be used on certain products for it to be considered "real", which greatly inflate prices for the consumer. Anything that isn't from those sources gets labeled as "fake" and treated as an inferior product that ought to be taken off the market regardless of actual taste, quality, or anything that actually matters at the kitchen and table.
So I don't really care about "bootleg" oils as long as;
It's labelled correctly.
It tastes good.
They're not artificially jacking up the price on something that's cheaper to produce.
This scam made the California University study 124 imported oils and found that over 70% of samples failed the tests.
These failed:
Mezzetta
Carapelli
Pompeian
Primadonna
Mazola
Sasso
Colavita
Star
Antica Badia
Whole Foods
Safeway
Felippo Berio
Coricelli
Bertolli
These brands passed:
Corto olive
Lucero
McEvoy Ranch Organic
Omaggio
California Olive Branch
Bariani Olive oil
Lucini
Ottavio
Olea Estates
Cobram Estate
Kirkland Organic
Also, test the olive oil yourself at home. Put the bottle out when cold, or in the fridge for 30 min. if it gets solid, it is pure and has monounsaturated fats.

USA please listen to me: the price of “teaching them a lesson” is too high. take it from New Zealand, who voted our Labour government out in the last election because they weren’t doing exactly what we wanted and got facism instead.
Trans rights are being attacked, public transport has been defunded, tax cuts issued for the wealthy, they've mass-defunded public services, cut and attacked the disability funding model, cut benefits, diverted transport funding to roads, cut all recent public transport subsidies, cancelled massive important infrastructure projects like damns and ferries (we are three ISLANDS), fast tracked mining, oil, and other massive environmentally detrimental projects and gave the power the to approve these projects singularly to three ministers who have been wined and dined by lobbyists of the companies that have put the bids in to approve them while one of the main minister infers he will not prioritise the protection of endangered species like the archeys frog over mining projects that do massive environmental harm. They have attacked indigenous rights in an attempt to negate the Treaty of Waitangi by “redefining it”; as a backup, they are also trying to remove all mentions of the treaty from legislation starting with our Child Protection laws no longer requiring social workers to consider the importance of Maori children’s culture when placing those children; when the Waitangi Tribunal who oversees indigenous matters sought to enquire about this, the Minister for Children blocked their enquiry in a breach of comity that was condemned in a ruling — too late to do anything — by our Supreme Court. They have repealed labour protections around pay and 90 day trials, reversed our smoking ban, cancelled our EV subsidy, cancelled our water infrastructure scheme that would have given Maori iwi a say in water asset management, cancelled our biggest city’s fuel tax, made our treasury and inland revenue departments less accountable, dispensed of our Productivity Commission, begun work on charter schools and military boot camps in an obvious push towards privatisation, cancelled grants for first home buyers, reduced access to emergency housing, allowed no cause evictions, cancelled our Maori health system that would have given Maori control over their own public medical care and funding, cut funding of services like budgeting advice and food banks, cancelled the consumer advocacy council, cancelled our medicine regulations, repealed free prescriptions, deferred multiple hospital builds, failed to deliver on pre-election medical promises, reversed a gun ban created in response to the mosque shootings, brought back three strikes = life sentence policy, increased minimum wage by half the recommended amount, cancelled fair pay for disabled workers, reduced wheelchair services, reversed our oil and gas exploration ban, cancelled our climate emergency fund, cut science research funding including climate research, removed limits on killing sea lions, cut funding for the climate change commission, weakened our methane targets, cancelled Significant National Areas protections, have begun reversing our ban on live exports. Much of this was passed under urgency.
It’s been six months.
